Drupal/WP Developer + Technical PM

You will focus around 50% of your time on development, and 50% on Technical PM. We follow agile methodologies but are not deeply religious about them – we take the best approach for any given project. We are still a relatively small company, so you should be flexible and ready to wear various hats given the need at the time.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Drupal / WordPress Developer

  • Should have 1+ years experience in either Drupal or WordPress.
  • Desire to learn both platforms.
  • Technically proficient in things like git version control, custom module/plugin development (or at least the basics if you are more of a front-end developer), site building, etc.
  • Basic CSS/HTML. Advanced theming experience would be a bonus point.
  • Extra bonus points for experience with migrations, Solr or other advanced search platforms, and the like. Tell us what you know!

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Tech PM

Protect and maximize developer time

  • Protect developers from interrupts by being a primary contact for clients.
  • Recreate issues identified by clients and condense to a simplified reproducible example for developers.
  • Manage client interrupts and requests.
  • Provide task estimates to bound both developer and client expectations.
  • Ensure developers have needed information to work effectively (credentials, repository and project access, wireframes, etc.)

Deliver quality work to clients

  • Evaluate completed work against requirements and client expectations.
  • Identify when a project or individual developer might need additional support.
  • Clarify tasks and assign appropriate work for appropriate skills.
  • Wrangle important tasks that are not being addressed.
  • Own the responsibility when projects go off track.
  • Be present to clients, developers and projects. Show up.

Be a primary client contact

  • Ask the dumb questions.
  • Translate client needs and desired into actionable tasks
  • Respond to client training requests.
  • Make recommendations for easy to implement enhancements and modifications
  • Evaluate the priority of client requests.
  • Communicate transparently about risks, and time needed and billed.
  • Make recommendations for effective use of client budget.

Mange budgets

  • Ensure all developers have appropriate tasks for billing.
  • Evaluate work against the billed time.
  • Ensure budget available to complete all work in scope.

Manage resources and priorities across projects

  • Assemble teams with needed skill sets and availability to apply to projects.
  • Participate as requested in the hiring process.
  • Manage developer workloads and priorities across projects.
  • Contribute to company-wide resource planning.

Perform other related duties as assigned, including assistance in proposal preparation.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education – Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience. 


Specialized Knowledge – Strong technical and development background with knowledge of databases, version control, and release process.

Skills – Ability to think and act creatively as well as strategically. Working knowledge of Drupal site building and modules. Experience with DNS, Linux servers and git. Web development.

Abilities - Excellent time management. Strong ability to communicate both verbally and in written form. Ability to hone and clarify broad or unclear client requests into technically appropriate solutions.

Personal Characteristics – Effective leader, careful listener, ability to function effectively in an interrupt-driven work environment.

Experience - 3-5 years of project management experience or development team leadership (as a developer/engineer). Scrum & agile project management experience ideal, or willing to learn.

COMPENSATION:

Contract-to-hire. Base salary commensurate with experience. May make a direct hire if you are a great fit.

Developers, graphic designers, UX designers & strategists. You will report to the CTO, and have a bit of interaction with the CEO.
